nwv brief #24 failure equals progress

dear founder,

sharing a conversation with trusted advisor from this week:

“my overall read on your energy is that you’re slowing yourself down. I’m not sure why, but I think it’s the question you should be asking yourself.”

i knew it was true.

annoyingly obvious.

no ground to stand on. not yet. not here.

the words continued:

“anything that you're trying to do at this stage to get stability or control or ground beneath your feet or security is just a fear based reaction to the massive amount of risk that startup founders take on at this stage. & like it won't benefit you and it won't benefit your colleagues & it's not going to support the business. it's just a reaction to fear because in the reality of the situation there is no such security or grounding or ground beneath your feet, you can offer at this stage of the venture. so in any attempt to do so it’s a lie. “

it’s me.

being a founder is just a continuous process of finding out that i am the problem.

that’s the sign of progress.

“You're afraid, which is normal. It's not a bad thing. I'm not casting aspersion on that. Anyone who's in their right mind before they're taking on funding and they're at the stage that you're at and people are supporting you & they're believing in your vision, you would be psychotic to not have some fear around that.”

“the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”

- franklin roosevelt

fear cannot dictate my behavior.

it cannot be the thing that keeps me from acting.

so i’ll keep going.

stand by as I walk headfirst into a web of failures.

if that thats what it takes-

it’s a a price im willing to pay.
